Select a LawBytes topic
LawBytes is a free public service program of the Tennessee Bar Association designed to help members of the community understand the law using easy-to-understand language. Clicking a LawBytes topic, you can read brief messages on a variety of legal topics. The messages aid in understanding common legal problems, recognizing potential legal problems and understanding how the justice system works. The service also provides information on where to go if further help will be needed. Although it is not intended to replace the advice of an attorney or to provide specific legal advice, the service provides general information on more than 70 topics.

The information available through TBALink LawBytes is basic legal information and is not a substitute for legal advice. LawBytes is provided by the Tennessee Bar Association as a public service and for general information only. It should not be considered legal advice. You should consult your attorney if you have questions concerning any specific situation. If you do not have an attorney, may we suggest that you contact your local bar association's referral service. The topics covered through TBALink LawBytes will provide basic information and should make it easier for someone with a problem to decide whether they need professional help from a lawyer or if another agency could provide them with assistance.

LawBytes were originally developed by the Knoxville Bar Association. Some of these messages were written to apply only to residents of Knox County, so we are working to update each topic to apply statewide. If you find a message specific to Knox County, please contact the local bar association in your area.
